Abstract

Description

The purpose of this paper is to determine the amount of gene flow between the different breeding colonies and the extent to which Lesser Snow Goose breeding colonies can be considered as discrete breeding units. To accomplish this we shall examine: (1) the phase ratios of Hudson Bay Lesser Snow Goose populations in breeding and wintering grounds and the relationship between the two, (2) the effects of differential phase migration and the resulting intermingling of geese from different colonies on mate selection and assortative mating, and (3) the extent to which geese return to their natal colony or emigrate to another.
