Item Open Access Accommodation in Form and Substance(2021) AnonymousItem Open Access Art and Artists in Climate Justice(2020) Owen, Malory; Lortie, ChristopherAs climate change continues to grow and impact our world, so does the response from activists across the world. Climate justice activists take many forms and employ many strategies to effect change in policy of or public opinion on greenhouse gas emissions. Through York University's Academic Innovation Fund dedicated to creating open source, publicly available course content, we've created 6 video segments interviewing grassroots climate justice activists from Toronto, a city with many climate justice organizations and efforts. Here we interview Kenza Vandenbroeck (Instagram: @moon__beam) and Kendall Mar (Instagram: @kandykaym), two grassroots organizers whose art is an extension of their activism. We'll talk about the different ways art can influence our world, how to make effective art for social change, and what it's like to be an artist in a world of environmental challenges. The Learning Commons unites learning and academic support units on campus to bolster student success. This guide sets out to help students understand the key benefits of effective group work and introduces them to the fundamentals of a successful group work process. We discuss the importance of sharing traditional knowledge within Indigenous communities, the power of public school systems to get organized, and how local change can make the biggest impact on global issues. But as we realized with the pandemic, that many more online resources were needed at an affordable price to facilitate learning. So that I why I created this project, to create more online methods for students to learn how to nurse various patients. In addition to working in mental health, psychology researchers and practitioners contribute to such diverse fields as education, organisational development and marketing, among others. However, despite its broad reach, there remain many misconceptions about psychology and a general lack of knowledge regarding the role psychology plays beyond the field of mental health. This workshop addresses some of these misconceptions and seeks to demystify what it means to study and work in the field of psychology. We'll discuss what it's like to be a digital activist, the efficacy of social media as a tool for social change, and the pitfalls of living virtually. You can watch the live-recorded video interviews or read the transcripts recorded in Summer 2020.Item Open Access Escape Room: Crime and Trigonometry(2022) Challal, Samia; Robin, TylarThis workshop has been created for students who are in a mathematics course in which they are learning about trigonometry. It is a fun way to challenge participants and have them apply the knowledge they’ve gained through their mathematics class in the context of a game. The workshop focuses primarily on the trigonometry unit. Throughout the workshop, participants will review the process of solving for angles or side lengths of a variety of triangles using diverse techniques. These techniques include: - Special triangles - Trigonometric ratios - SOHCAHTOA - Sine and Cosine laws The workshop takes the form of an escape room, which means that participants will have to solve a sequence of problems to move from room to room before being able to “escape”.
